Camping = Adventure

This coming weekend a bunch of us are going camping in Fairplay.  Of course this is the weekend that Denver's weather is going to be much cooler, which I have been begging for since we hit the 90's. And that means, Fairplay is going to be even cooler.  Like 20 degrees cooler. Bring on the chill.

I love camping.  It is the only time that you can sit around in a lawn chair, with a beer, a stick and and an open fire that you can roast a marshmallow over.  Try doing that in a city park.  Camping for me means going somewhere far away from all humans.  That also mean going somewhere your cell phone doesn't work.  Those places are getting fewer and fewer as cell phone companies work eagerly to cover every square foot of the earth with cell phone towers and satalites.  So let's just take a moment to stop and really think about that for a few moments.  You are where no one, can reach you.  No one.  Notta.  Nobody! Zelch.  To some that might be scary.  To me it brings on "Ahhhhh enjoy the peace and quiet."  No texting notifications every few minutes.  No beeps to remind you of an appointment.  No chimes telling you that you just got another email from work for one more fire that needs to be put out ASAP...even though it is the weekend.  Nothing.  Just you, your friends, the beer, fire and the poor marshmallow that is going to get roasted and eaten.  Heaven.  Now sure, I could always just leave my cell phone at home or shut it off...but then I find myself thinking "hmmmm I wonder if I have any messages."  This is mother natures' way of saying "relax goofball and watch that stupid marshmallow that is now a torch."  (if you haven't figure it out yet...I love, love, LOVE roasted marshmallows.)

So here I am, my summer is almost over and it has been a wonderful summer, but school is back on in two weeks! YIKES! So, one last adventure before sticking my nose into a book for 4 months is a good thing. This weekend I expect nothing shy of getting rained on, potentially snowed on; freezing my ass off in the middle of the night because the temperature drops down to freezing; and hearing drunk boys still around the camp fire at 3 am because they can't find their tents, which happen to be right behind them.  Life is grand and just wouldn't be the same if I couldn't camp.  I mean come on, camping is the great American past time...ok maybe that's what they say about baseball but it is by far my great American past time.  Fairplay...here I come!

  1. It seems like most people have the same things happen while camping. It is so much fun to hear others talk about it, then I can say "hmmm, sounds like my trips."
